Perry was born on the 25th of July 1968 in Chicago in Illinois. She was the daughter of Laurie Metcalf Perry and Jeff Perry. Her first appearance was in the television screen in the role of Jackie Harris, a character that was played by her mother on Roseanne, an ABC show Roseanne. However, her parents did not want her to perform until she turned an adult, fearing the effects of stress. Perry says she didn't want to be an actor in highschool but decided to start performing as a form of social interaction during her time at Northwestern University when she switched from Boston University. Perry left for New York, where she was offered small roles in shows like Law & Order: Criminal Intent. Home sickiness brought Perry home to California and theater roles were readily available. Her mother and she appeared on Broadway with her for the play The Other Place, in 2013. In 2015 she performed alongside her father as well as Kevin McKidd in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize-winning film Anna Christie at the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble in West Los Angeles. Perry played a lead role in nine episodes of ABC's show The Family. In 2017, Perry starred in the role of a political thriller Scandal alongside her father. She played a younger Mary Cooper (Sheldon Cooper's mother) in Young Sheldon. This spin-off episode that was part of the CBS show The Big Bang Theory was another portrayal by her younger mother. The character was picked through an audition, even though she had a close connection with it.
